J. E. Rhodes Elementary is thrilled to announce Mrs. Courtney Batres as the 2024- 2025 Teacher of the Year for our campus!
Mrs. Batres is the definition of quiet leadership—gracefully guiding her students and teammates with compassion, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Described by her colleagues as kind, intentional, and incredibly supportive, Mrs. Batres leads with humility and heart. One teacher shared, “She is always helping someone solve a problem with wisdom and compassion.” Another noted, “Her greatest quality is her ability to listen. She genuinely listens to both colleagues and students… providing thoughtful, positive feedback that makes everyone feel heard and valued.”
This year, she stepped up mid-year to serve as a mentor for her grade-level team—offering support, encouragement, and guidance with her signature calm confidence. She’s known for tailoring lessons to meet the unique needs of her students and fostering an inclusive, structured environment where every child feels safe and respected.
On Monday, Mrs. Batres was surprised by the Vandal drum line, cheerleaders, and administrators and was honored with a plaque, a yard sign, and a $1,000 check from the Van ISD Education Foundation.
We are proud to have Mrs. Batres representing J.E. Rhodes Elementary this year.
