🐊❤️ IF THE CROC FITS… WEAR IT! ❤️🐊
It’s National Crocs Day, and we knew exactly where to find one of our favorite Croc-loving Vandals — Mrs. Malone’s kindergarten classroom at J.E. Rhodes Elementary! And, of course, she was sporting a favorite pair of Mickey Mouse Crocs while loving on her kindergarten kiddos. 🐭❤️
Mrs. Malone is a Vandal through and through! A second-generation Van graduate, she has also watched two of her own children graduate as Vandals. This is her 8th year teaching kindergarten at Van ISD, after spending five years serving our district as a substitute teacher.
When asked what she loves most about Van, her answer is easy: the traditions and the people. She truly can’t imagine teaching anywhere else. ❤️🤍
And the Crocs? Mrs. Malone loves them because they’re comfortable — but even better, they give you a chance to let a little of your personality shine!
But our favorite thing about Mrs. Malone isn’t her Croc collection. 😉 It’s the relationships she builds with her students long after they leave her classroom.
You’ll find her in the stands, at the gym, or out at the fields cheering on her current and former students at ALLLL the things! 🏈🏐⚾️🥎🏀📣 She loves showing up for her kids and celebrating the things that are important to them.

🦎🐢🦘 CREATURE TEACHER COMES TO J.E. RHODES! 🐍❤️
Fundraising for our school came with a pretty WILD reward today! Students who participated in our recent fundraiser earned the opportunity to attend a special Creature Teacher program — and our animal guests did not disappoint!
Students met Blueberry the blue-tongued skink, Sassy the veiled chameleon, Rocky the mata mata turtle, Roxy the red-tailed boa, and for the grand finale and definite crowd favorite... 3-year-old Rookie the red kangaroo! 🦘❤️
Our students learned so much about each animal, and the experience became even more memorable for our top three sellers, who earned the special privilege of holding Rookie! What a reward! 🤩
We love when learning comes to life! Thank you to everyone who participated in and supported our fundraiser. Your support of J.E. Rhodes helped provide a morning filled with hands-on learning, lots of smiles, and memories our students won't soon forget! ❤️🤍
And we're pretty sure Rookie gained A LOT of new Vandal fans today! 🦘❤️

This week, we are celebrating Clara! Clara joined our J.E. Rhodes family this year, and we are so glad she did!
Clara works hard in the classroom, gets along well with her classmates, and consistently shows kindness, respect, and a commitment to doing the right thing. She is a wonderful example of what it means to show her Vandal pride!
We are so proud of the positive impact Clara has already made on our school family. Thank you, Clara, for being such a sweet addition to J.E. Rhodes Elementary!

🚌🧠❤️ HANDS-ON LEARNING ON THE STEAM BUS!
Our 1st grade Vandals took their study of the human body beyond the classroom with a visit to the Van ISD STEAM Bus! Students rotated through three interactive stations designed to reinforce what they’ve been learning—and some of our Van High School students helped lead the way!
At each station, our first graders had a different way to explore the human body:
🥽 Virtual Field Trip — Students took a virtual journey inside a “giant’s body” while identifying different body parts. There was even some excited talk of jumping boogers and snot!
📍 ID & Location — Students practiced locating, identifying and spelling different parts of the body.
❤️ Quiver Heart — Using augmented reality, students explored the heart and learned more about its role as a muscle in the circulatory system.
We love seeing our older Vandals helping our youngest learners while giving them opportunities to explore, create and learn through technology! These are the kinds of experiences that make learning memorable. ❤️🤍

We are excited to recognize Ashley Williams as our October Employee of the Month!
Ashley has embraced her new role as a third-grade reading teacher with enthusiasm, confidence, and a positive attitude! After spending several years teaching kindergarten, she made the transition to third grade this year and has taken on the challenge like a champion!
Ashley brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role. Her strong understanding of early literacy and the foundational skills students develop in their earliest years of school gives her a unique perspective on how to meet students where they are and help them grow as readers.
She has stepped into her new role seamlessly, bringing positivity, dedication, and a team-first attitude every step of the way. Her willingness to embrace change and do what is best for students makes her such a valuable part of our campus.
We are so thankful for Ashley and the heart she brings to JE Rhodes each day! Congratulations, Ashley! We are so glad you're part of our team! ❤️

Our J.E. Rhodes first graders had a very special visitor last week! Shanna Wiggins stopped by to give students an up-close look at a horse skeleton and turn their learning into an experience they could see, touch and explore!
There’s something special about watching curiosity come to life when students get the opportunity to learn beyond the pages of a book. Our first graders were able to examine the bones, ask questions and learn more about how a horse’s body is put together. 🐴🔎
A BIG thank you to Shanna for taking the time to share her knowledge and give our students such a memorable hands-on learning experience! We love the community members who help make learning fun in Vandal Land. ❤️

Students in the Van High School Floral Design classes put their creativity and skills to work creating Homecoming mums and garters for some very special elementary students. And judging by these smiles, we’d say they were a hit! ❤️🤍
We love seeing learning extend beyond the classroom—and we especially love when it creates connections between our campuses. From designing and assembling each piece to seeing them proudly worn by our younger Vandals, this was such a sweet way for our high school students to share a Texas Homecoming tradition with the next generation.
