teacher and students gather around a pig dissection

Students in Mrs. Coffelt’s class rolled up their sleeves for a hands-on science experience that brought learning to life in a big way. During a pig dissection lab, students explored anatomy up close as they removed and identified various organs, connecting classroom lessons to real biological structures.

The activity was made possible through a grant from the Van ISD Education Foundation, which continues to support innovative and engaging learning opportunities across the district. These grants help teachers design memorable experiences that go beyond the textbook and get students actively involved in their learning.

Adding to the fun, Mrs. Coffelt showed up in full Ms. Frizzle style, setting the tone for a day of curiosity, exploration, and hands-on discovery. From start to finish, students were engaged, curious, and not afraid to ask questions as they worked through the lab. Experiences like this turn science into something students can see, touch, and truly understand—making learning both meaningful and memorable.
