One of our beloved long-time teachers, Mrs. Moore, suffered a stroke on October 10th while teaching class. A student rushed to find help, which may have saved her life.
On what started out as a relatively normal day, Mrs. Moore says she began feeling a little sick later that morning. Soon, a few of her students began realizing that something was not right. Fifth grader, Bo Penny, began repeatedly asking his teacher if she needed help. While she reassured him, and the rest of her students, she started feeling more and more nauseous. When Mrs. Moore stood up to try to go to the bathroom, she lost her balance, and had trouble standing back up.
She has since said that the last thing she remembers from that day is the sound of Bo Penny's feet racing down the hallway to the front office to get help. Bo asked the school nurse to come quick to help Mrs. Moore. Shortly after that, Mrs. Moore was taken by ambulance to the hospital, and would later have emergency surgery on her head.
Bo Penny was recognized at the Van ISD board meeting on November 13th with a Van-Tastic award for his quick heroic actions that day. His favorite teacher even showed up and surprised him!
Mrs. Moore is still at home focusing on her recovery, and getting stronger each and every day. Since that day, she has received an outpouring of love and support from those in our school district and our community! All of Van ISD, and especially her students, are ready to have her back in the classroom when she is feeling better!
