Service is an important part of leadership, and our Van High School Student Council is putting that into action right here in Vandal Land!
STUCO members recently spent time after school volunteering at the Van ISD Education Foundation’s Vandal Vault, helping sort and organize clothing so items are ready for Van ISD students who may need them.
And this isn't just a one-time project! Our Student Council makes it a priority to volunteer at the Vandal Vault about once a month, spending a couple of hours after school helping keep the closet organized and ready to serve our students. ❤️
We’re proud of these Vandals for giving their time to quietly serve others and take care of their school community.

It was a great day for Van FFA as our Van Junior High agriculture students participated in our annual Greenhand Camp! 💙💛
One of the best parts of FFA is watching leadership come full circle! Members of the Van High School FFA leadership team led this year’s camp, spending time with our junior high students through games, activities and plenty of fun while introducing them to the opportunities, traditions and leadership that come with being part of FFA.

Congratulations to sophomore Charlene Hickle for being named the VHS Vandal of the Week!
Get to know Charlene:
-Charlene is a sophomore at VHS and the daughter of Jeffery and Velita Hickle.
-She participates in the VHS marching band where she plays the saxophone, UIL Ready Writing, the FBC Youth Worship Team, and East Texas Youth Orchestra (Philharmonic) where she plays the oboe.
-Charlene says she doesn’t have a favorite teacher. “They are all wonderful, and I love them all equally.” 🙂
-After high school, Charlene plans to attend TJC and UT Tyler. She hopes to be a veterinarian technician and a band director, while also participating in musical performances.🎶
-Her favorite thing about being a Vandal is “how blessed we are to have an amazing staff who are kind, understanding, encouraging, and respectful. Not a lot of schools have this blessing; I am very grateful for them.” 💖

We’re a little late celebrating last week’s Good News Phone Call of the Week, but we definitely didn’t want to miss the chance to recognize Ellie! 💕
Ellie is such a kind, caring, and thoughtful young lady. She is always well-mannered and respectful, never forgetting her “please” and “thank you,” “yes ma’am” and “no ma’am.” Those little things say so much about her character!
She is also a wonderful helper and a natural leader in her classroom. Ellie is always willing to lend a hand, set a great example for her classmates, and brighten the day with her sweet spirit. We are so proud of the young lady she is! 🥰

Ellie is such a kind, caring, and thoughtful young lady. She is always well-mannered and respectful, never forgetting her “please” and “thank you,” “yes ma’am” and “no ma’am.” Those little things say so much about her character!
She is also a wonderful helper and a natural leader in her classroom. Ellie is always willing to lend a hand, set a great example for her classmates, and brighten the day with her sweet spirit. We are so proud of the young lady she is! 🥰

Congratulations to Mrs. Braswell for being named our September Employee of the Month. Mrs. Braswell currently teaches 7th grade Texas History and 8th grade American History. She is a Vandal and Texan to the core. Thank you, Mrs. Braswell, for all you do for Van Junior High.

Our Vandal Cross Country runners took on a HUGE field of competitors in Sulphur Springs Friday and Saturday, and we had some outstanding individual finishes! 🔥
👏 Josh Diaz — 12th out of 254 runners!
Our Van Junior High girls also had a GREAT day on the course, with three Vandals finishing in the Top 25 out of 224 runners! ❤️

🏃♀️ Claire Calloway — 25th of 224
Those are some impressive finishes in a field that large! We’re proud of ALL of our runners for competing hard, gaining experience, and continuing to get better each time they step on the course. 💪

🏐💛 FIRST DISTRICT WIN — FOR SOMETHING BIGGER THAN VOLLEYBALL! 💛🏐
What a special night in Vandal Land! ❤️
We opened district play with a WIN over Kemp, but tonight was about so much more than what happened on the court.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time to wear gold, support families, honor survivors, remember those we have lost, and raise awareness for the fight against childhood cancer. 🎗️
Before our varsity match, Jennifer and Everlee Smith shared their family's childhood cancer story with us. We are incredibly grateful for their willingness to stand before our Vandal family and share a story that reminds us exactly why this fight matters. 💛
Our girls took the court wearing yellow ribbons in their hair as a small but meaningful show of support for the children and families who are still in the fight.
Tonight, we celebrated a district victory. But more importantly, we stood together for something much bigger than volleyball.
💛 No child fights alone.
