There’s just something special about getting your letterman jacket!
Several of our Van High School student-athletes recently received their earned letterman jackets—a symbol of the hard work, commitment, practices, competitions and countless hours they have invested in representing Van High School.
A letterman jacket is more than something you wear. Every letter, patch and achievement added to it tells part of a student’s high school story.
Pictured is Maddex Robertson, who earned his letterman jacket as a member of Vandal Soccer. Maddex and his teammates had an incredible season last year, advancing all the way to the third round of the playoffs! ⚽️❤️
That accomplishment—and all the work that went into getting there—is now part of the story his jacket represents.

-Shiloh is a freshman at VHS and the daughter of Hannah and Taylor Brown.

-Shiloh says her favorite teacher is “Mr.Rice--he always brightens my day and strives to improve our choir everyday. He is good at building a healthy community within the class. I don't know where I'd be without him."
-After high school, Shiloh plans to attend college and hopes to be a fine arts teacher for elementary students.

Yesterday, over 200 students attended the Christus Health Rise Up Event at Van High School, giving students in our health science CTE classes an opportunity to explore careers available in healthcare through Christus Health. The career fair is just part one of a two-part event. Part two will allow our senior health science students to spend a day in healthcare at Christus, after which they will become eligible to apply for a scholarship at TJC.

Good News Call of the Week!
This week, we’re celebrating Dylan! Dylan consistently goes above and beyond in our cafeteria by noticing when there’s a mess and helping clean up—even when it isn’t his mess!
He doesn’t do it for attention or because someone asked him to. He simply sees a way to help and takes responsibility. That kind of kindness and character deserves to be celebrated!
Way to go, Dylan! We are so proud of you! ⭐️

🐹🐔🪲 CLASS PETS = BIG LEARNING AT J.E. RHODES! ❤️
There are some pretty special classmates at J.E. Rhodes Elementary who don’t show up on the class roster!
Yesterday, Mrs. Garcia’s second grade class welcomed its newest member — Zoey the guinea pig! 🐹 Mrs. Garcia was able to surprise her students with Zoey thanks to a generous donation from Mr. and Mrs. Hinton, grandparents of Layla Carroll.
And Zoey is already helping make learning a little more fun! The class’s first order of business was putting their letter-writing skills to work by composing thank-you letters to Mr. and Mrs. Hinton for their generous gift. ❤️
Zoey even has an awesome carrying case, which means she can travel around the school with her class. We have a feeling she is going to become a familiar face around J.E. Rhodes!
She even wore her Vandal shirt to school today to greet our Vandal Football players!
All the excitement over Zoey got us wondering... who else has an amazing class pet?
We didn’t have to look far! Mrs. Lawson’s class has a walking stick that keeps students fascinated and is even used to help students with transitions throughout the school day. 🪲
And last — but certainly not least — we’re still pretty excited about our J.E. Rhodes chickens! 🐔🥚 The gals continue to provide us with fresh eggs, while the eggs currently in the incubator even had a “sonogram” this week so students could get a peek at what’s happening inside!
It won’t be long now! Our first graders are getting to experience the entire life cycle firsthand, and if all goes according to plan, those baby chicks should make their grand entrance next week — just in time for Homecoming! 🐣❤️
From writing thank-you letters to practicing transitions to watching the life cycle unfold right before their eyes, these class pets are doing much more than making school fun. They’re creating hands-on learning experiences our little Vandals won’t soon forget!
